LOUD on Planet X is the result of three years spent working with Alex Jansen of Pop Sandbox and a small team of indie game developers out of Bento Miso in Toronto. The hybrid rhythm tap / shooter / tower defence game is the latest from Pop Sandbox - its first to release across iOS, Android Steam and PS4. Players step into the 2D shoes of Canadian artists Metric, Austra, Cadence Weapon, Lights, Tegan and Sara, Fucked Up, Purity Ring, Shad and others, plus international acts HEALTH, Little Dragon and Chvurches as they defend their interstellar stage from attacking aliens using sonic blasts from a curated selection of their top tracks.
I was responsible for early conceptual development and game design during the pitch stage. During production I moved into Art / Animation Director and lead illustrator roles, creating the background artwork, designing the aliens and creating in-game character avatars for the featured artists. The game launched a successful Kickstarter campaign that offered custom characters as backer perks, so by completion I had design roughly 130 little cartoon humans. LOUD on Planet X is available on the App Store, Google play, Steam and Playstation Network.
